How do we remain hopeful, centered, and ready to act in the face of fear and injustice?
How can we create connection and collective wellness within communities facing trauma and oppression?

As global authoritarianism continues to pull the world ever deeper into the edge of crisis and collapse, those of us in the fields of social change and politicized healing need effective skills for fostering personal and collective joy, resilience, and resistance.

Somatics, the practice of working with and through the body to transform consciousness and strengthen the feeling of being alive, is a powerful methodology that can be integrated into personal practice, one-on-one work, and group facilitation. In this course, advanced practitioners and teachers Kai Cheng Thom, Nazbah Tom, and Fayza Bundalli weave together decades of training and practice across multiple lineages to offer an introduction to somatic skills that explicitly integrates the urgent need for social and collective change. The practices and frameworks offered in this course are heavily shaped by the teachers’ experience in the fields of community organizing and community health, conflict transformation, sex worker advocacy, and more, as well as their lived experience as BIPOC trans individuals.

Students who complete this course can expect to leave with a foundational set of skills to be used for personal practice, as well as somatic tools that can be either integrated into an existing 1:1 practice or work with groups. The course will also offer some support regarding further study and practice.
