What happens in the initial consultation?
I offer a free 20 min initial phone consultation. While we don't enter into counselling work at this time, we will discuss your situation and how I might be able to help. It's a good opportunity to ask any questions you may have about Somatic Therapy, and for both of us to feel out whether we would be a good fit to work together.
When and where do you work?
I work Monday daytime and evening, and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday daytime. I work in Strathcona on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and Kitsilano on Thursdays.
What are the benefits of Somatic Therapy?
Somatic Therapy includes Somatic Counselling and if desired, Somatic Bodywork. Benefits can include healing from the ongoing impacts of social conditions and traumatic experiences, knowing yourself more deeply, developing skills for navigating conflict and challenging situations, and loving yourself and others more deeply.
Are you taking new clients who are white?
You are always invited to ask about my current availability. My availability to start with new clients who are white varies, as I do reserve a majority of my long-term availability for clients who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Colour, including clients of mixed-ancestry.
Can I see you only for Somatic Bodywork?
No. I practice Somatic Bodywork in conjunction with Somatic Counselling in order to most effectively support your healing. We may have a strong focus on bodywork in our work together, depending on what you are working on, however I do not see clients for bodywork exclusively.
What are your rates?
Individual somatic therapy: $140 per one hour session
Couples or Family somatic therapy session: $150 per one hour session
Are you covered by Extended Health Benefits?
Extended health benefit plans often cover Registered Social Workers. I will provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your extended health benefit provider. Contact your insurance provider to find out if your benefit plan covers the fees of Registered Social Workers.
I am registered with the Crime Victim Assistance Program, which covers a portion of my fee ($95 per session). See here for information on eligibility.
What is your Cancellation Policy?
24 hours notice on the previous business day is required for cancellation, or the full session fee will be due, as your appointment time has been reserved for you and so has not been available to others. If you are not able to come in on short notice, it is always an option to shift your session to phone or Skype.
